Kim Dong-wan of Shinhwa and model-turned-actor Kim Jae-wook will take the stage as a transgender rock singer in "Hedwig and the Angry Inch" from May.
Musical actors Jo Jeong-seok and Choi Jae-woong return to play the rocker again and will alternate the role with the two Kims.
Production company Show Note said the four actors have distinct colors and thus four totally different Hedwigs will be presented this year.
"Lee Gi-na, the director of previous productions of 'Hedwig', knows the show well and has been prominent in finding the individuality of the actors", an employee of Show Note said.
Costumes, make-up and even choreography and lighting will be customized for each actor, maximizing their characteristics.
Known for his masculine charm, Kim Dong-wan will be transformed into a tender-hearted, vulnerable singer.
"When he decided to act in Hedwig, he read the script and score over and over to understand the character", the Show Note staffer said. "He made his debut as a member of K-pop group Shinhwa in 1998 and has acted in several TV dramas and a movie. He will portray the life of Hedwig on stage in an honest way".
Kim Jae-wook has the perfect look for Hedwig. He gained popularity in the 2007 drama "Coffee Prince" and played a role of a talented homosexual patissier in the movie "Antique" (2008). Most recently, he appeared in the drama "Marry Me, Mary!". Kim is also the vocalist for underground rock band "Warlus".
"He will portray the delicate, keen sensibility of Hedwig", the official said.
Jo was in the 2006 and 2008 production of the show and Choi played the role in the 2009 production. Both were popular among musical fans and the two will offer renewed interpretations of the unique character.
First staged in 2005, the Korean rendition of "Hedwig" has received rave reviews including fervent standing ovations at the end of the performances.
The musical is written by John Cameron Mitchell, who also adapted the script for a movie of the same title as well as directing and starring in it. Stephen Trask composed the lyrics and played the guitarist in the film version.
With the backdrop of the seedy Hotel Riverview Hedwig, a failed transsexual rocker from East Germany and her husband Yitzhak will perform in concert, revealing the ups and downs of her life. Hedwig's monologues are backed up by rock band "The Angry Inch" and rough animations projecting the story.
The musical will open at the KT&G Sangsang Art Hall in Samseong-dong, southern Seoul, on May 14. Tickets are available at Interpark Ticket (ticket.interpark.com) from 2 p.m. today, from 50,000 to 65,000 won. Call (02) 3485-8700 for more information.

Actor Kim Sung-min arrested on drug charge
Seoul (The Korea Herald/ANN) - Korean actor Kim Sung-min's alleged use of illegal drugs has sent shock throughout the domestic entertainment industry.
Kim, an actor and cast member of popular reality show "Happy Sunday - The Qualities of a Man," was arrested Friday (December 3) at his apartment in Yeoksam-dong, Seoul, for using illegal drugs. Korea strictly bans the import and use of illegal drugs such as methamphetamine, and Kim reportedly told the authorities that he had smuggled meth from overseas and regularly used it in violation of the law.
The Seoul Central District Prosecutor's Office stormed into Kim's apartment Friday, believing he may have engaged in illegal drug use.
The news instantly generated a flood of comments in cyberspace, particularly because he has long maintained a positive public image. Kim, who made his debut as a stage actor in 1995, gained fame in recent months for his role in "Happy Sunday."
The production team of the show said Kim would drop out of the program immediately. A prerecorded episode aired Sunday was hurriedly edited, cutting out Kim's part entirely.
Kim posted an apologetic message on Twitter saying, "I feel deeply sorry for those who have been hurt and disappointed in me, including my family members and loved ones."
Kim had played a leading role in several television drama series such as "What's for Dinner?" and "Glory of the Family."

Kwon Sang Woo to be fined for hit and run accident
We reported earlier in the week that actor and Hallyu star, Kwon Sang Woo was involved in a hit and run accident where he hit a parked car, police patrol vehicle before discarding his car and fleeing the scene. But he will not be charged according to the police which had been investigating this matter in the past few days. A representative from Gangnam Police Station expressed, “If he had fled the scene and there were casualties, then he will be hit with a criminal charge. But for Mr. Kwon’s case, there were no casualties, just damages to the vehicles and so we will close the case. He will just need to pay a fine and compensate for the damages he caused to the involved vehicles.”
The representative added that Mr. Kwon’s manager will also escape being charged after it was revealed that he had tried to take the rap for Kwon Sang Woo. But he later admitted that it was Kwon Sang Woo himself who was behind the wheels, and as it was before the statement was taken, no charges will be filed.
Kwon Sang Woo’s good image has unfortunately taken a hit because of this, and comes at a time where his fortunes seemed to be experiencing an upturn thanks to good reviews for his movie, 71-Into The Fire. Kwon Sang Woo’s wife, Son Tae Young has also been criticized by netizens as she was seen attending a fashion show on the day her husband got involved with this matter.
PT: The stupid husband corked up, the wife got the blame. Where on earth are you people from?! She is not even there! Accidient happened when people became careless. DRIVE SAFE!
I felt that Kwon Sang Woo is a coward. His manager even took the rap for him. "What a manly way? Shame on you."
