A lot of hype, another delay for Son Dambi

WGM's alumni Son Dambi has had a slight setback in her career yet again. She was supposed to begin filming "Hype Nation," a hip-hop English language movie early next month. Hype Nation seems to be the perfect name for the movie, a lot of Hype but not much besides that... besides delays.Son Dambi was supposed to play the female lead named Esther. However, due to financial distress related to the economic recession, filming has been delayed yet again. It seems that this project already had a hard enough time getting off the ground, with an initial delay back in January and months of planning. In the mean time, she's keeping herself busy. She has plans to continue with the release of her next album at the end of this month. Son Dambi is also keeping busy with acting lessons and practicing her English. She also has plans to star in an upcoming drama.

After group Big Bang’s release of their own story in the book ‘Shouting to you in the world’, So Nyeo Shi Dae is the next to release their own style book.Putting aside that of the Kpop realm, So Nyeo Shi Dae will lead as one of the Korean mass culture trend setters. So Nyeo Shi Dae’s interest for fashion has led them to being part of what leads the new mass culture in Korea, for example their colour skinny jeans won when promoting their hit song ‘Gee’ lately have set a fashion craze amongst the young people.Nam Yoo Hee, who is preparing for this book ‘Elle Girl’ said, “In order to follow with the girls’ fashion, we have went directly to their quarters for a visit. They have booked the hotels around the filming site, so much that Yang Hyunsuk from YG entertainment is having trouble finding a room.The first take of IRIS has begun on 10th, and Japanese fans have been around the hotels and filming site to see the faces of their favourite stars.Japanese Broadcasting stations are also eyeing the steps of these stars.The interest will be heightened when TOP of Big Bang joins the crew on 17th. Previous hallyu stars have been famous among the ah-joom-ma’s, it is highly predicted that TOP will bring the fans of younger ages. Because Big Bang has released albums in Japan, people are already feeling the vibe of new hallyu star.THe filming of IRIS will take around 3 weeks; there will be dating scenes of Lee Byunghun and Kim Taehee (will appear as a couple in the drama), and there are action scenes to be filmed.IRIS is the first-ever-drama to try a spy,action thriller in tv drama- it deals with the conflict between assacination of North Korea leader and government groups. From Boy Meets Boy to Friends

Director Kim Jo Gwang-soo garnered some attention with last year’s queer short film Boy Meets Boy, and now he’s coming out with his follow-up. Called Called 친구사이, the title translates to “We’re Friends?” or simply “Friends?”

Friends?, like Boy Meets Boy, also deals with queer romance, and this time, the director has cast two unknown actors, 19-year-old Hong Jong-hyun and 25-year-old Seo Ji-hoo. Hong started as a model and was also in Jo In-sung’s Frozen Flower, while Seo earned his role through auditions.As with Boy Meets Boy, the events of this film are based on the director’s personal experience; the film aims for a “realistic, frank” depiction of young gay love. Although Boy Meets Boy was a mere 35-minute short, it had a decent amount of buzz. Maybe it was the pretty young actors Kim Hye-sung (Unstoppable High Kick) and Lee Hyun-jin (Family Honor), maybe it was the material (two high school boys falling in love for the first time), maybe it was the fact that the film was nearly dialogue-free. Maybe it was the zeitgeist. In any case, it got people talking and even had a theatrical run.This film is described as “lively and bold,” with stronger (romantic) scenes between the actors than in Boy — but that doesn’t mean they’ll be steamy or graphic; rather, this film features older characters (twentysomethings, versus Boy’s teenagers) and a longer running time. The plot is described as the “unexpected events that occur when Seok (Hong) goes to visit Min-su (Seo), who’s serving his military duty.”The mid-length (50 minute) film will begin shooting mid-March, and aims for a theatrical release sometime in the latter half of the year.

So Hee doing Lee Hyori’s U-Go-Girl on radio became the No.1 search term on search engines in a flash. The capture of So Hee doing a cute U-Go-Girl dance move was posted online by a netizen which created lots of interest.

This incident happened when the Wonder Girls appeared on MBC FM “Starry Night” radio program on 27th July. It started with So Hee trying to imitate the dance by trying to move her fingers around. But she realized she did it wrongly after Ye Eun pointed it out to her. She then tried doing it again which was noticed by netizens and bought joy to their watching fans (in the studio).

Rain appears in court personally to clear his name

The sudden cancelation of a concert landed a Korean superstar in a fraud case. The concert organizer demanded through court for a compensation of US$40 million from the singer and his previous managing company.The hearing was held in Hawaii on Wednesday and Rain appeared in court to give his statement.Few days before his Hawaii concert on Jun 15, 2007, Rain suddenly announced that his concert will be canceled. The reason given then was that the stage design done by the organizer was not up to his expectations. The organizer, however, believed that the reason the concert was canceled was because Rain had terminated his contract with his then artiste management company JYP; they felt that finding an excuse to cancel the concert is an act of fraud.Though the case was previously trialed in Korea and Rain was found not guilty, the organizer felt that they had been interfered by Rain's representing lawyer at that time and thus requested for him to be in court personally for the trial in Hawaii. The court hearing is currently ongoing till Mar 18. According to reports, Rain has also freed up early March to attend court personally, hopefully the court will clear his name and end the two-year case.

Rain’s Canceled Concert “Cost $1.5 Million”, Saturday March 14, 2009 Korea

In a Wednesday trial at a Hawaii court, President Lee Seung-su of Click Entertainment, who is battling in court with the singer, said a Rain concert that was canceled cost his company $1.5 million.He cited damage both financially and in regards to reputation, but that Rain and his aides did not apologize even once, calling such an attitude embarrassing and dishonest.Click purchased the copyright to the concert slated for June 2007 and argues that Rain and his former agency JYP canceled the show just one month before the concert date, taking $500,000 in copyright fees. Click filed a suit in Hawaii requesting $40 million in compensation.In the Wednesday trial, a Click spokesman said, “Rain and his 90 group members didn’t properly file for a visa, meaning they had no intent to perform in Hawaii. Rain took issue with the stage facility, but the stage set met all requirements stated in the contract.”Lawyers for Rain and JYP said, “Click signed a deal not with us but with Revolution Entertainment, which owned the copyright to the concert. The suit should not target us.” During Rain’s world tour, JYP sold the right to Rain’s North America concerts to Revolution.Rain’s attorney said, “The stage facility didn’t live up to the level of Rain’s performance. He needed huge LED backdrop lights, a waterfall, fireworks, a protruding stage and five elevators. Rain is a fine singer but he needs the appropriate props.”The Hawaii concert to be held at Aloha Stadium was planned as the first leg of the “Rain’s Coming” North America tour. It was canceled abruptly just days before the even, to the disappointment of Rain’s Hawaiian fans.

"SORRY, SORRY" popular group Super Junior had a bright comeback after 18 months, presenting a soft and sexy first stage all at once. On March 13, at 6:30 PM, Super Junior performed a live stage on KBS Music Bank, and met with their fans after a year and 6 months. From Super Junior's recently released 3rd album, the songs and were picked for a unique stage. For Super Junior appeared wearing black suits, with an intense and charismatic choreography which definitely left a lasting impression on the audience; the performance showed how Super Junior reached a higher level of compure and maturity. The choreography was ideated by American artists in charge of popstars such as Beyonce, Justin Timberlake, etc., namely Nick Bass.

JYP takes actions towards Khmer “Nobody”

It was announced today that JYP is finally taking action on copycats of 08’s hit “Nobody”. He had been closing an eye to “parodies” around Asia but with an official recording of the song in Khmer girl group RHM’s “Vol. 376″ - topped off with MV incorporating both “Tell Me” and “Nobody” choreography no less. JYP had created a protest against the band.Representatives of the Wonder Girls outside of South Korea, Sony BMG, will be in charge of investigations and court case procedures if there’s the need for them. JYP reiterated his decision on March 12th, of putting his foot down due to the Wonder Girls’ recent expansion overseas and the fear that copycats will affect future activities in Asia.

By going forth with the debut of Super Junior-M(andarin), a 7 member sub-group of the original 13-member Super Junior, for the Chinese market.Super Junior-M consists of original members Han Kyung, Shi Won, Dong Hae, Ryuh Wook, Kyu Hyun and two new Chinese members Henry and Zhoumi. All seven members will be performing and recording their album in Chinese.The original five members of Super Junior (who are now in Super Junior-M) might be happy that they're finally getting some attention, but the fans are far from happy. Fans demand the original 13 members (Hee Chul, Kang In, Ki Bum, Shi Won, Dong Hae, Han Kyung, Ryuh Wook, Shin Dong, Yeh Sung, Kyu Hyun, Lee Teuk, Sung Min, and Eun Hyuk) to remain as the one and only Super Junior. YoonA In New Movie With Siwon and Yoochun (updates)

Being one of the members of SJ that is focused on acting, Siwon will be acting in a Korean movie at the end of the year, filmed in the Philippines. YoonA of Girls’ Generation and Micky Yoochun of Dong Bang Shin Ki will be participating in it as well.To not make conflict with each of the members’ schedule, the company has made many plans to make it as easy as possible for the actors.This is the second movie of SM after “Attack of the Flower Boys” performed by SJ. This movie will be out next year on SM’s anniversary.This movie is well anticipated by citizens in the country and is said to start filming after SMTOWN 08 Concert.

YG in the Dog House

YG is being investigated, along with Fantom Entertainment, for bribery and blackmail. It is suspected that YG, Fantom and other entertainment companies bribed producers to have their artists on certain variety shows.
I’m hoping this isn’t true, because I think that YG Entertainment is a pretty stand out company full of really talented people. But if it is true, it’s not going to change whether or not I buy a Big Bang album. Artists hardly ever know about the indiscretions of their bosses. In the US a couple of years ago, a lot of big name record companies were under investigation for Payola. Payola is the practice of bribing radio djs with money and merchandise to get their artists singles more radio air time. (It was confirmed that, Jessica Simpson’s singles got more airtime because of payola.) I remember hearing about it on the radio, and my mother, who was once signed to Sony, told me that payola was very prevalent in the music industry. It’s sad, but like I mentioned before in my fandom post, the entertainment industry, the music industry is an ugly machine that produces beautiful, beautiful things.
I know a lot of people will be disappointed in YG if it turns out to be true, if he did in fact bribe people or his company did. We feel like we know YG because of all of his quirky and seemingly honest letters to the fans. But ultimately, we don’t know him at all, and what is to be hidden remains hidden until it’s found. So, as much as I don’t want this to be true, I won’t be crying a river if it is.

The director of the movie "Taegukgi" is directing a new drama titled "Iris".This action drama's production cost was very high filmed in China, Russia, Japan, U.S, and other foreign countries raising expectations for the audience.Main character are Lee Byeong-Heon who was recently in the movie "The Good, the Bad, the Weird" and T.O.P (Choi Seung-hyeon), rapper for Big Bang. Lee will be National Security Secret Agent Kim Hyeon-joon and T.O.P will be a skilled murderer from an underground gang, Iris in the U.S.The two are known to be body-building for the action scenes.This drama which contains 20 episodes will be in the beginning of next year and will start filming on October.

While news is quiet of the 200 Pound Beauty sequel, plans are under way for a musical version, starring SES lead singer Bada. (The film sequel will be losing the sleeper hit’s original plastic-beauty Hana, star Kim Ah-joong, who opted not to return to the franchise in favor of other projects now that she’s catapulted to stardom.)This musical version will be the follow-up stage role to Bada’s previous theatrical turn as Esmerelda in Notre Dame de Paris, for which she received favorable reviews. FT Island will be releasing their 2nd album ‘colorful sensibility’ on 25th August. The preview of the MV of the title song “After Love” was also revealed.Debuted last year with the song, “Sarang Alhee”, after which they occupied on and offline chart within a month into debut and also took home the best newcomer award during the year-end music awards, FT Island will be back on 23rd and 24th August in Seoul Melon AX for their commemoration concert for their 2nd album.A part to the MV of the title song “After Love” of this new album was revealed on 18th August on Mnet site (www.mnet.com).A 60-members-strong orchestra participated in the song “After Love”, and is said to be a magnificent and powerful song. 10,000 Thai Fans Flock to Watch Big Bang Live

Group Big Bang successfully wrapped up a recent concert in Thailand, followed by equally-successful concerts in Korea and Japan. Big Bang’s management agency YG Entertainment said Big Bang held a concert entitled ‘Global Warning Tour’ at the Huamark Indoor Stadium in Bangkok, Thailand on August 7. The agency said although it was the group’s first-ever concert in Thailand, some 10,000 local fans gathered to watch their favorite Korean group perform. According to YG Entertainment, the entire audience gave them a standing ovation from the start of the show. The agency also said some 20 fans fainted during the concert and received first aid treatment from paramedics. Big Bang’s popularity in Thailand rivals that of Korea’s. Since the group released its first studio album in Thailand in September last year, a total of four songs, including ‘Dirty Cash’, ‘Lies’, ‘Always’ and ‘Last Goodbye’ nabbed number one spots on Thailand’s MTV International Music Chart. After the concert, the members thanked the audience in Thai saying it was an exhilarating concert and that they hoped to one day release a Thai version of their album. A number of music industry personnel, including the president of Sony Music Thailand, attended the concert. Diehard from neighboring countries, including Singapore, Hong Kong and Vietnam also traveled to Bangkok to attend the concert.

Han-Kyung, Chinese Member of Super Junior Carries Olympic Torch

Hang-kyung, the Chinese member of popular male vocal group Super Junior, took part in carrying the torch of the 2008 Beijing Olympics.Han-kyung took part in the Olympic torch relay during one of the final legs of its journey in Bejing. Numerous fans flocked to the streets to greet the idol star.The torch relay was broadcast live across China through BTV which introduced the singer as a popular member of Super Junior who was selected by Korea's SM Entertainment.After completing his leg of the relay, the singer said it was the single most special moment of his life and that he felt honored, happy and moved by the whole experience. He also went on to thank his Korean, Chinese and other Asian fans for supporting him.Han-kyung nabbed the number one spot in the "2008 Beijing Olympic Torch Bearer Selection Vote" which took place on the Chinese website for Coca Cola (http://www.icoke.cn). Big Bang's 3rd Mini Album Sweeps Online/Off-line Stores

The group Big Bang has sold more than 30,000 copies of its third mini album "Stand Up" just two days after it was released on August 8. The album received an order of 85,000 copies from a retail dealer.

The album was completely sold out by 5:00 P.M. on August 9 at major record stores including Evan Records and the Gwanghwamun branch of Hot Tracks. The album was temporarily sold out on major online record stores including YGeshop and Internet Kyobo Book Store.

The manager at a record store said the album is selling at the same rate as Seo Taiji's latest album.

Big Bang's latest album defeated Seo Taiji on the Hanteo Chart and topped the weekly chart. The title song of the mini album "Day by Day" also ranked number one on Cyworld's music chart, MNet.com and Jukeon.

A total of 640,000 online users accessed the music video of "Day by Day" on YG TV, two days after it was unveiled to the public.

"Ingi Gayo," a popular music show on SBS TV, alloted an unprecedented ten minutes for Big Bang's first TV appearance since the album's release.

Gummy ranks first on MTV Thailand chart!

Gummy has topped Thailand's MTV Chart with her latest hit, "I'm Sorry." The song is the title song of her 4th studio "Comfort" which was released early this year. The album was released for the first time in Thailand in June. It wasn’t long before "I'm Sorry" pushed Usher out of the number one spot stealing on Thailand's MTV International Chart. It is a significant feat as Gummy has not done any official promotional work in Thailand.

Singer Bada Cast in Musical ‘Pounds Beauty’

Singer Bada has been cast in the brand new musical ‘Pounds Beauty’. The musical is based on the 2006 film which was based on a Japanese cartoon under the same title. At the time of its release, the film attracted six million movie goers, the most-ever audience for a Korean romantic comedy. The film also made actress Kim Ah-joong into a super star overnight. Bada will take on the role of heroine Han-nah along with musical star Yoon Gong-ju. Bada had previously starred in ‘Notre Dame de Paris’, a hit license musical which was recently staged in Korea. The producers are still searching for an actor to take on the role of the male heroine, who was played by top actor Ju Jin-mo in the film version. Musical ‘Pounds Beauty’ will open at the Chungmu Art Hall on November 27.

Andy to hold his 1st Taiwan fanmeeting in March

On this day, the “2009 Lee Sunho The First New Dream In Taipei” concert/fanmeeting will be held at the Taipei International Convention Centre (TICC) at 7pm.This is Andy’s first visit to Taiwan since Shinhwa’s promotional trip for their 3rd album 9 years ago in 2000. SM Entertainment said, “Dong Bang Shin Ki Xiah Junsu has prepared a new dance song for Dong Bang Shin Ki’s concert called ‘XIAHTIC’. It will be revealed during the concert performance.”

Over 230K copies of Big Bang’s book sold in 3 weeks

Big Bang’s book ‘Shouting to you in the world’ has sold over 230,000 copies in just 3 weeks.
Publisher Sam and Parker said,”Big Bang’s book was released only just January on the 28th but they are already #1 bestseller. Until 17th February, they have sold over 230,000 copies. We are seeing that they will hit 250,000 copies in just the matter of a few days.”
Meanwhile, Big Bang has returned from their promotions in Japan, and there are plans for SeungRi to continue on his solo activities with ‘Strong Baby’.

Big Bang ‘Remember’ album to be labelled ‘No Sales Allowed For Those Under 19′

Under the Commission of Youth Protection, Big Bang’s 2nd album ‘Remember’ has been labelled harmful for teenagers with the reason that the song ‘Strong Baby’ in the album contains inappropriate/suggestive lyrics.From 6th March, Big Bang’s 2nd album ‘Remember’ will have the sticker ‘No Sales Allowed For Those Under 19′ labelled on the CD.A YG Entertainment representative said, “We did not arrange for a new recording for a clean version of the supposed problematic song ‘Strong Baby’. We will just have to sell the CD with the sticker label on.”As to whether this order will affect SeungRi’s solo activity, “This coming 1st March will be his last performance, hence we see that there shouldn’t be any hindrance to his solo activities.”
